She graduated from Roseboro High School in 1958 and attended East Carolina University and later Fayetteville Technical and Community College. Early in her adult years, she worked as a secretary in the engineering department of Phillips Petroleum Co. in Raleigh and as secretary to the registrar at N.C. State University.  She once owned and operated a children’s clothing store, Jack & Jill Boutique, at Eutaw Village in Fayetteville, and later worked as full-charge bookkeeper at Smithboro Furniture Co. in Fayetteville.

Sara was an avid gardener and also enjoyed baking and making candy.  She had dreamed of becoming an architect, and she had two houses built to her own designs and specifications, her first home in Raleigh and her final home in Fayetteville.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Hillary Gaylord Myers; and a stepson, James Allen Harner.  She is survived by her husband, Philip Michael Harner; a son, Jeffrey Minson Parrish of Raleigh; a daughter, Ashley Myers Cline of Statesville; a brother, Wyatt Stephen Lee of Louisville, Ky.; a stepson, Joseph Michael Harner of Centre, Al.; a stepdaughter, Patricia Ann Zamboni of Rome, Ga.; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

She had directed that her remains be cremated after her death. A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. on Saturday [10/20/2018] in the sanctuary of  Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2505 Village Drive, Fayetteville. The Rev. Richard McDuffie will preside. The family will receive friends and visitors from 1 to 3 p.m. in the church’s fellowship hall. Memorial gifts may be made to the church.
