Ronald Barrick Obituary

Fayetteville

Ronald Eugene Barrick passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 26, 2023 in Fayetteville, North Carolina. Ron was born on April 7, 1939 in Evergreen Park, Illinois, where he played basketball, hockey and baseball while delivering newspapers on his bike. In 1959, Ron joined the Navy, married his wife of 62 years, Susan, and began his long career in the Navy.

Through his many deployments and relocations, Ron became an expert on airplane maintenance and ultimately led one of the first maintenance teams for the inaugural F-14 Tomcat fighter jets stationed in Miramar, California. Ron soaked up the experiences of his many travels and adventures and became a mentor and advisor to family and friends.

Ron is survived by his son, Matthew (Hope) and daughter, Lynn Mortensen (David); 2 grandchildren, Heather and Eric Mortensen; and many nieces and nephews.

The family thanks Mikala and Rosie from Senior Helpers in Dunn for their love and care of Ron in his final year.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation in Ron’s memory to Patriot PAWS, an organization that provides service dogs at no cost to disabled American veterans. Donations can be made online at www. patriotpaws.org/donate/.

A private family celebration will be held to celebrate his life.

Services entrusted to Butler Funeral Home, 6535 Clinton Road, Stedman, NC  28391.
