FAYETTEVILLE
Mrs. Mary Louise Smiley Strickland, 82, of Fayetteville passed away at her residence Tuesday, September 30, 2014. She was born in Warren County January 4, 1932 to the late George Washington Smiley and Guel Pilot Smiley. She was predeceased by her husband, Joel Strickland; three sisters, Ida, Tink and Shirley; one brother, George W. Smiley, Jr. She worked as a farmer and as a cashier for Strickland's Grocery.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, October 4 at Butler Funeral Home Chapel in Stedman with Rev. Don Baldwin and Rev. Jerry Edge officiating. Burial will follow at Stedman Church of God of Prophecy Cemetery.
She is survived by two daughters, Mickey Bullard of Fayetteville and Marlene Patrick of Marston; six sons, Edward Lee Castle of Burlington, Charles W. Castle of Fayetteville, Bobby A. Castle of Stedman, Joel Strickland, Jr. of Bethany, John Latham Strickland of Stedman and Michael Strickland of Roseboro; one sister, Rhoda Joyner of Roanoke Rapids; seventeen grandchildren, twenty-two great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M., Thursday, October 2 at Butler Funeral Home in Stedman.
