Mr. Michael Stephen Sutton, 77 went to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 8, 2023 at Whispering Pines Nursing & Rehabilitation Center surrounded by his family.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at Stedman Pentecostal Holiness Church with Sidney Autry officiating. The burial will follow at Fisher Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Monday, April 10, 2023 at Butler Funeral Home in Stedman.

Michael Stephen Sutton (Mike) was born in Mecklenburg county but lived the better part of his life in Cumberland county.

Mike was a husband, Daddy, Granddaddy , great Granddaddy , friend, coworker and cancer survivor. Growing up he spent lots of time learning his way through life. He had a work ethic that he would pass on to his kids and grandkids. 

Mike was best known for his ability to buy and sale, this was not only a way to provide for his family but in many ways was his favorite hobby! He owned and operated many businesses as well as serving as a Fayetteville Firefighter which is what he considered identified himself. He was proud of his job as a firefighter and loved to tell the stories. 

Cancer took its shot at Mike in 2001 which would start his long battle to the end. Different challenges came along with the treatment of the cancer, heart issues, COPD, osteoarthritis and dementia. Being the determined man he was he fought to enjoy the next 22 years. Though his battles were many so were the good times and memories made! 

April 8th marked Mike’s last day on this Earth but his legacy lives on in the many people he touched and mentored along the way. The lessons he taught us will always be remembered and the memories will always be cherished. 

 He was preceded in death by his parents, Maurice Alexander Sutton and Jewell Williams Culbreth; and he leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Faye Sutton of the home; two sons, Matthew Stephen Sutton and wife, Ericka of Arizona; and Michael Keith Sutton and wife, Debbie of Godwin; three grandchildren, Claire Sutton, Cole Sutton and Matthew Stephen Sutton, II; and his great-grandchild, Gracie Sutton.
