Linda Jane Smith Edwards Brown, age 84, was welcomed to Heaven by Jesus Christ on Sunday, January 3. She was born July 15, 1936 in Warsaw, NC to Frank and Eva Powell Smith. Married to Donnie L. Edwards in 1956, they made their home in Roseboro and reared their four children in a home that was always full of people and laughter. She is preceded in death by her parents, husbands, Donnie Edwards and Alvin Brown, brothers, Thomas William Smith, Frank Smith, Jr., her son Chris Edwards and granddaughter, Sarah Edwards. Linda is survived by her children, Michelle and Wayne Reynolds of Topsail Beach, Don and Kim Edwards of Columbia, SC and Mary Linda and David Whitledge of Abingdon, Va. Grandchildren William and Caroline Reynolds, Smith Reynolds, Chris and Erin Edwards, Donnie Edwards III and Perry and Hannah Whitledge. Great grandchildren Julian and Jason Edwards. Special sister-in-law’s Joyce Carter, Grey Thompson, Mary Love Royal and Carol Honeycutt. Special extended family Fran, Ashley and Tyler Matthis.
Upon graduating from Salemburg High School, Linda graduated from Watts School of Nursing. She spent the next 40 years as a nurse with Sampson Memorial Hospital and Sampson County Schools. After retirement Linda served as a Nurse Missionary on three trips to India. Sharing the gospel of Jesus on Emmaus Walks and Kairos Prison Ministries was her passion. Linda gave her life to family, friends and strangers sharing the love of Jesus.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Roseboro First Baptist Church.
A celebration of her life will be held in late spring due to COVID restrictions.
