Mr. John Preston Nunnery, 85 went to be with the Lord on Friday, September 17, 2021 at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

Funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Monday, September 20, 2021 at Evergreen Baptist Church.   Burial will follow at Carty-West Cemetery.  A visitation will be held from 10:00 AM to 10:50 AM Monday at the church prior to the service.  The visitation and service is for family and close friends.  Due to COVID please wear facial coverings and practice social distancing.

He was born in Cumberland County to the late, John Nunnery and Oma Murray Nunnery.  In addition to his parents he is also preceded in death by his brothers, Raymond, Randolph, Roland, Max and Rufus Nunnery.

Preston was a produce manager for Colonial and Big Star Foods for many years before retiring, and was owner and operator of Pep's Auto Sales in Stedman.   He got his pilot's license at the young age of 16, and his love of flying planes continued throughout his life.

He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of over 61 years, Helen Nunnery of the home; daughter, Donna Matthews & husband, Dwayne of Godwin; son, Greg Nunnery & fiance', Denise Scott of Stedman; grandchildren, Alexandra Page & husband, Derek of Spiveys Corner, Casey Nunnery of Greensboro, Preston Matthews & fiance', Hannah Sellers of Godwin, and Logan Nunnery of Stedman; great-grandson, Grayson Page; his siblings, Rachel Bennett, Vernie Faircloth & husband, Richard, Sadie Bigsby and Robert Nunnery & wife, June all of Stedman; sister-in-law, Jewel Nunnery; and numerous nieces and nephews.
