Wade
Jerry McClellan Southerland, 96, of Wade, went to be with the Lord on February 2, 2021.
Funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM Friday, February 5, 2021 at Center Baptist Church, officiating will be Rev. Theron Collinsworth. Burial with Navy honors will follow at Old Bluff Presbyterian Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM to 12:50 PM Friday at the church prior to the service.
He was a member of Center Baptist Church. He retired from Daniel Construction Company after 46 years of service. Jerry was a member of the (Greatest Generation), a World War II Navy Veteran and a recipient of the American Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, and World War Ii Victory Medal. He was also recipient of the Phillippine Liberation Ribbon.
He was born in Pickens County, SC on May 26, 1924 to Elighue and Arminda Lewis Southerland. He is also preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Kathryn Cannon Southerland.
He leaves to cherish his memory daughters, Kathy S. Stewart (Wayne) of Wade and Debi S. Price (Steve now deceased) of Willow Spring; three grandchildren, Victoria Dudley Waiden (Mike), Michelle Price Langdon (Chad) and Philip Stewart (Jordan) and 6 great grandchildren.
He was the eldest of 13 children of which seven are now deceased. Living are Lila S. Blakley, Leota S. Moore, Hazel S. Autry, Barbara S. Yount and Thelma S. Collingsworth.
A special thanks to his caregivers, Dianne Scoggins, Cindy Bryan and Cape Fear Home Health and Hospice, Ginger Conoway, Leslie Johnson and Yetta Gerald. Also special thanks to Donnie and Gail Collier and the members of Center Baptist Church who shared his love of the Lord with their visits and prayers of encouragement.
