Janet was born on December 7, 1938, in Sampson County. She was preceded in death by her parents, Herman & Ruth Starling Warren; and her loving husband of 60 years, Worth Wingate Collier.
Janet graduated from Mingo High School and Atlantic Christian College. After graduating, she began a long and rewarding teaching career with the North Carolina Public School System. She was a beloved and devoted teacher to students in Harnett, Lenoir, and Cumberland counties, eventually retiring in 1999. Janet adored her family and friends, and was the picture of southern hospitality. She especially loved to cook and entertain in her home and at the family’s Barbecue House. Janet was hardworking in her home, her church, and her community, faithfully serving anywhere she was needed. She was also active in the Bethany Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary until her battle with cancer began in 2018.
