James "Jimmy" Salazar Obituary

Salemburg

On Friday, March 26, 2021, James “Jimmy” Salazar passed away at the age of 58 in the loving presence of his family. A lifelong North Carolina resident, Jimmy attended Reid Ross High School and went on to serve 8 years in the United States Navy on the USS Monongahela. He spent 38 happy years with the love of his life, Susie, and was blessed with two sons and four grandsons.

One of Jimmy’s greatest passions in life was music. He had a deep love for live music and made many friends throughout his life supporting local musicians and playing at area venues and events with his band Harley and Big Country. Jimmy was an accomplished guitarist who will be remembered by countless admirers for his electrifying rendition of our nation’s anthem, The Star-Spangled Banner. Most recently, Jimmy was recognized as a Fayetteville Icon at Paul’s Place of Fayetteville, NC, where his plaque on the wall of icons proudly honors his talent alongside an elite group of other local musicians.

Jimmy is survived by his wife, Susan Salazar, sons James “JD” Salazar (Amanda Whitmore) and Travis Salazar (Rachel Smith), grandsons Ayden, Braxton, Gunner and Braelin, brothers Richard and Michael Salazar, mother-in-law Faye Campbell, brother in law Boyd Campbell (Renee), sister in law Barbie and the many friends who have who have become family over the years. We will forever be grateful for Healy Wholesale who was not only an employer, but our second family.

Jimmy Salazar will be remembered for many things: his charismatic personality and ever-present smile, as a proud Navy veteran and loyal friend, as a devoted husband, proud father and adoring granddaddy, for his musical talent, as an avid bird lover, for being a faithful servant of the Lord, and many other reasons we will all keep warmly in our hearts. His family hopes each person who grieves for Jimmy will find comfort in knowing how much he cared for them and treasured their presence in his life.

Take joy in Jimmy’s reunion with our Heavenly Father, his family and friends who preceded him, and his beloved cockatiel, Casey! He is surely watching over us all and making music once more.
