Iris Sophia Rerko entered through the Gates of Heaven on June 24, 2022. Iris passed away from complications due to Covid in the Cape Fear Valley Hospital. Iris leaves behind her husband James of 35 years and best pet / friend Buddy. Iris was preceded in death by her father Bob Allen Dubs, mother Alverta Dubs and brother Bob Dubs. Surviving siblings are Lee Dubs (Brodbeck, PA), Christine Dubs (York, PA) and Sharon Dubs (York, PA).
Iris was born in York, Pennsylvania on July 29, 1957. She attended York VoTech and graduated in 1976. Iris was a Police Communications Specialist for the Pennsylvania State Police. Eventually, Iris talked her husband James into relocating to North Carolina for the warmer weather and the year-round golf conditions. Iris thrived in North Carolina working as an Office Assistant for the North Carolina Department of Transportation. Though due to health reasons, Iris was forced to end her employment and golf career. Unable to golf, Iris never missed the final round of the PGA Tournament on Sunday afternoon.
Iris was never a low handicap golfer, but she was a single digit handicapper when it came to shopping. She loved getting together with friends to do lunch and then a little shopping.
Iris also loved her Peek-a-poo, Buddy. Buddy was her faithful companion, friend and confidant.
Iris will surely be missed by her husband James and his family, her siblings Lee, Christine and Sharon, her NCDOT family, Baywood Golf Club friends and everybody that knew her. Please remember her laugh and her smile.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Wednesday, July 6, 2022 at Butler Funeral Home, 6535 Clinton Road, Stedman, NC 28391.
