SALEMBURG
Granville Fulton Gainey, Jr. (G.F.), 81, passed to his eternal home on April 10, 2024. He was born on October 23, 1942, to Granville Fulton Gainey, Sr., and Pennie Aman Gainey.
G.F. grew up in the Mingo community of Sampson County and was a 1961 graduate of Midway High School. He furthered his education with obtaining a B.S. Degree in Business Administration as a proud Pirate, from East Carolina University. G.F. chose to teach three years at Roseboro-Salemburg High School but his true calling for accounting led him to northern Virgina where he worked and successfully obtained his CPA certification. G.F. enjoyed a long career in both public and private accounting.
While teaching, G.F. met and then married Sylvia Cannady Gainey in 1970, celebrating 53 years of marriage together. The couple chose to make Sampson County their permanent home. G.F. established the firm Gainey and Denning and remained there for 25 years. After selling the practice, G.F. continued his career at HOG SLAT where he enjoyed his work and his association with the Herring Family.
G.F. was a lifelong member of Mingo Baptist Church but faithfully attended Roseboro First Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School and was active in the Baptist Men fellowship.
G.F. was an avid golfer and a long-time member of Lakewood Country Club where he served on the Board of Directors. He was a faithful member of the Clinton Rotary Club for 42 years and was a Paul Harris Fellow. G.F. also served as a Board Member of BB&T. G.F. enjoyed countless hours with Sylvia, enjoying their beloved dachshunds and cheering for their Pirate Football team.
He is survived by his loving wife, Sylvia Cannady Gainey and a host of cousins and dear friends. He will be remembered as a gentleman of integrity, honesty, and fairness by all who knew him.
Mrs. Gainey wishes to thank his wonderful caregiver, Erma Thomas, who was faithful and caring to the end.
A private burial with family and close friends with be held at 11:30 A.M. at Mingo Baptist Church Monday, April 15, 2024, with a 2:00 P.M. memorial service following at Roseboro First Baptist Church. Family and friends are invited to a visitation and reception following in the fellowship hall.
Friends and family will be received in the home at 1405 Country Club Road, Salemburg, NC.
