Dr. Scott Carroll Tolbert, 79 went to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 8, 2023 at his home in Stedman, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Bennettsville, SC on January 9, 1944 to the late Leslie Morris Tolbert and Frances Scott Tolbert. Dr. Tolbert grew up in Rockville Centre, N.Y. and enjoyed spending summers with his grandparents in Greenwood, SC. He earned his Bachelor of Science from Wheaton College in Wheaton, IL. Dr. Tolbert furthered his education at Columbia University in New York City, NY, where he earned a Doctor of Dental Surgery. He completed his Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Duke University in Durham, NC. He became an Oral Surgeon with a successful practice in Fayetteville, NC for 53 years, retiring January of 2022. Dr. Tolbert was a fellow of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and a member of the following: American Dental Society of Anesthesiology, North Carolina Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, North Carolina Dental society, Southeastern Dental Society, Southeastern Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, and Greater Fayetteville Dental Society. He served as Anesthesia Site Inspector, Assistant Adjunct Professor of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at East Carolina University, and past president of the Exchange Club of Greater Fayetteville.
Scott was a current member of Stedman Baptist Church in Stedman, NC where he sang in the choir. He was a member of Highland Country Club in Fayetteville, NC where he leisured in his favorite sport and pastime, golf. He cherished the opportunity to attend the Masters in Augusta, GA for over 30 years. Throughout his life, Scott found pleasure piloting his personal airplane, fly fishing, sailing, and visiting his Carolina vacation homes at Lake Waccamaw and Topsail Island, where he was proud to captain boat outings for all of his children and grandchildren. At home he thoroughly enjoyed maintaining his land with his tractor and tending to his landscape. This is where he held many memorable occasions with family and friends over the years; always a proper and welcoming host, Scott was regarded as a classic gentleman.
A sincerely attentive and affectionate husband, father, and grandfather, who protected and mentored his loved ones, he leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 29 years, Pamela Freeman Tolbert of the home; children, Carol Weyerhaeuser of New Bern, Linda Tolbert of Charleston, SC, Amanda Mosley & husband, Wayne of Stedman, Jordan Stewart & wife, Courtney of Stedman, and Andrew Stewart & wife, Carey of Autryville; grandchildren, Gage and Cohen Mosley, Steele and Bowman Stewart, Harrison and Gatlyn Stewart; and a brother, Morgan Tolbert & wife, Pam of New Jersey, and extended close family members. Scott was preceded in death by his brother, Dale Tolbert.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, April 12, 2023 at Stedman Baptist Church, officiating will be Rev. Jimmy Atkinson. Burial will follow at Fisher Cemetery in Stedman.
