Donald Autry Obituary

Stedman

Mr. Donald Wayne Autry, 67 passed away on Friday, May 7, 2021 at his home surrounded by his family.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, May 11 at Fisher Cemetery in Stedman with the Reverend Allen Mayo.  The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM on Monday, May 10 at Butler Funeral Home in Stedman.

Mr. Autry was the son of Marshall Blackman and Lettie Naomi Fisher Autry. He is preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Leona Autry of the home; daughter, Michelle Matthews; step-son, Michael Getter; grandson, Hayden Getter; brother, Marshall Autry, Jr. and wife, Doris; and two nephews, Bryon Autry and Jason Autry and wife, Amber.

Donald retired from UPS after 35 years of service.  He is also a veteran of the United States Air Force.  He was a faithful member of Stedman Pentecostal Holiness church.  He will be remembered as a loving son, husband, father, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend.  He enjoyed being outdoors working in the yards and caring for his land.  Donald loved people and he never met a stranger.  He was always joking keeping people on their toes.  Leona always felt she had to explain his great humor when he was at his best.  He was faithful in caring for his parents and cherished them greatly.

Donald had a very close relationship with his family including his aunts, uncles and many cousins and always looked forward to their visits and calls.  They would sit for hours and talk about their younger days and all of the wonderful memories.  Donald's family grew when his mom, Lettie, started caring for an eight month old little girl named Morgan.  Roy, Cindy and Morgan Robinson soon became his adopted family instead of just neighbors.  In 1989, Donald met and married Leona and she had one son, Michael.  After graduating high school, Michael moved to Fayetteville.  In 1992, Donald's whole world changed at the age of 39, a special delivery named Michelle came into the world.  He lived every day for his precious gift.  In 2006, Donald received another precious gift from God, a grandson named Hayden Getter.  Donald spent many hours riding Hayden on the go-kart and playing ball.  He looked forward to their weekend visits and spent many hours just playing.

Donald has battled cancer since 1996 with his family and Jesus by his side.  Donald knew the power of prayer and his salvation carried him through the difficult days.  Donald never complained and lived each day as if it were his last.  He fought a good fight with Leona by his side.  He would often say, "Every day is a GOOD day, some days are just better than others."  He was courageous and remained positive until the end.  His legacy will continue to live in the hearts and minds of those who loved him.

WELL DONE, THY GOOD AND FAITHFUL SERVANT!
