Dean Carlson Obituary

Autryville

Mr. Dean Paul Carlson, 72 passed away on Friday, August 5, 2022 at Sampson Regional Medical Center in Clinton.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM Sunday, August 21, 2022 at the funeral home.

Dean was born in Rushford, Minnesota to the late, Rockwell and Elaine Carlson.  In addition to his parents he is also preceded in death by a son, Matthew Dean Carlson; wife, Jeanine Renfro Carlson; and a brother, Bruce Carlson.

Dean loved golf and sports, especially football.  In Rushford he played football and basketball in high school.  After high school he went to Rochester State Junior College and was named All-Region as a sophomore.  He then transferred to Iowa State University to play football and played with them in the first bowl in program history in the 1971 Sun Bowl and in the 1972 Senior Bowl.  He was selected in the 1972 NFL Draft by the Kansas City Chiefs.

Dean was also a mortgage broker in the Kansas City area for many years.  Although Dean loved sports, his proudest achievements were his family, especially his grandchildren. He loved his family and prided himself as an avid amateur weatherman.  He lived his life loving big, and loving hard.   He will be truly missed by his family and all who knew him.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his children, Angela Rae Smith & husband, James of Autryville, Chanel Joy Carlson of St. Paul, MN and Joshua Paul Carlson of Little Rock, AK; and six grandchildren, Maggie, Mason, Noah, Siri, Malia and Kaia.
