Billie Weathington Obituary

Roseboro

“Fighting the Good Fight,” for 98 years, Billie Herman Weathington went to be with his Lord on, April 4, 2024.

Born to the late Berta W. Weathington and William Henry Weathington of the Beaver Dam Community on December 6, 1925, Billie also is preceded in death by his wife, Norma Brady Weathington, brother, Louis Henry Weathington, and sisters, Eva Kate McGougan and Mary Frances Crawley, daughter in law, Kimberly S. Weathington, and son in law, Clint Hines.

Billie started public school at the age of 4, and told many times of being tied to his desk with sewing thread because he wouldn't stay in his seat. That energy continued throughout his life. He graduated from Stedman High School in 1943, and entered the Navy during World War II from 1944-46. Never leaving the states, Billie spent most of his time at a Navy fuel station in San Diego, CA, hitch-hiking all the way from California when he was on leave.

Billie always had a love of farming, and began his life as an independent farmer with his wife, Norma Brady, on Jan 29, 1949. Norma Weathington passed away on September 1, 1994.

In 1957, Billie's focus and energy turned to a different farming venture. He purchased Central Farm Center in Eastover, NC and began making feed and raising chickens. At the time of his retirement in 1990, he merged his operation with Tyson Foods and continued to work there for 5 additional years.

Billie and Norma prospered on modest means. After leaving Central Farms, Billie came home to continue his love of growing soy beans, corn, and vegetables. He farmed land in Beaver Dam until 2014. Norma canned and froze all summer long from those big gardens. Most food was grown or processed on the farm as frugality was always the mantra. We will never forget Mama's fried chicken, butter beans, sweet corn, and pickles. We didn’t always have what we wanted but we always had what we needed.

Billie and Norma's home was always a welcoming place for friends and family. There was always a piece of pie or cake to share along with a glass of sweet iced tea. Going to Beaver Dam Baptist Church every Sunday was expected as well as good grades, behavior, and assistance with chores.

Daddy and Mama believed strongly in education and saved to educate Susie and Scott. Their hard work and persistence will always be remembered.

Billie is survived by his sister, Wilma Grace Newton, of Mt. Holly NC and two children- Susan Weathington Hines-Chellew and husband John of Greensboro, NC and W. Scott Weathington of Roseboro, NC. He has 5 Grandchildren- J. Aric Hines and wife Mary of Elverson, PA, Jason Weathington of Roseboro, NC, Austin Hines and wife Anastasia of Walnut Cove, NC, Brooke Shoffner and husband Gabe or Roseboro, NC and Morgan Bullard and husband Lance of Roseboro, NC. He also was the proud great-grandfather of Clinton and Nathaniel Hines, Wyatt and Bode Bullard, and Thea and Roman Shoffner and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to family and friends, Billie has had many other angels with him in the form of caregivers. Special thanks go out to all of them. The family also extends thanks to the staff of The Carolina Inn in Fayetteville, NC for their care, love, and support. Special thanks go to Dr. Ben Blomberg of UNC Geriatrics, for his patience and care, as well as to the congregation of Beaver Dam Baptist Church.
