Salemburg
Betty Faircloth Tanner, 84, of Salemburg, passed away after a brief hospitalization and decline in health October 16, 2022, with her loving family by her side.
She was born April 19, 1938 in Sampson County and was the daughter of the late Bertha “Bert” Sessoms and Perry “Bruce” Faircloth. The second child born in order of 10, she grew up in a loving, large family where hard work, serving the Lord and the strength of a close family were the foundation for a good life.
She married Earl Weldon Tanner and they welcomed 3 children into this world together, Mitchell, Danny and Becky. The Bible describes a Proverbs mother as a saved, virtuous, godly woman that loves the Lord and teaches her children to love God, and that is without a doubt how she lived her life. She worked as a homemaker, but her true passion was caring for children. She lovingly touched the hearts of over 100 children through the years that were entrusted to her care and became Grandma, Grandma Sissy, and Miss Betty to them, and as such, a part of our family as well.
Her greatest joy in life was her family. She was an exemplary daughter, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to her loved ones. Her home, dinner table, and arms were always open to anyone that needed a safe place to land. Taking after her own mother, she was undeniably the best cook we have ever known. Her cakes, fried chicken, and homemade biscuits are going to be missed something fierce. She deeply enjoyed spending time with and traveling with her daughter Becky, and her sisters, lovingly referred to as our “Golden Girls”. They spent a great deal of time together in the mountains each fall and on the weekends attending their favorite southern gospel sings.
She found a special friendship with RL Jones, whom she enjoyed spending time with the past 12 years experiencing the sweet parts of life: going out driving to find a good meal, traveling, fishing and shopping. They had true companionship that was cherished.
Betty is survived by her children: son, Danny Tanner; daughter, Becky Jackson (Bruce); Grandchildren: Trae Smith, Kevin Tanner (Crystal), Delia Gray (Jon), Jessica Tanner, Katie McPhail (Thomas), Lindsay Moore (Cameron); Honorary Grandchildren: Shirley Townsend, Ryan Simmons, Karen Simmons; Great Grandchildren: Holden Smith, Stephanie Bunnell, Courtney Tanner, Austin Tanner, Reagan Gray, Kaylee Gray, Julie Gray, Ariah Tanner, McKenzie Tanner, Naveah Tanner, Nadia Tanner, Olivia McPhail, Kinsley Moore, Brody Moore, Maddie Jones, Kaitlin Hodges, Brian “Bubba” Bullard, Joshua Bunnell, Samuel Bunnell; Brothers: Buddy Faircloth, Tommy Faircloth; Sisters: Darlene Cannady, Helen Daniels, Ruth Jackson; numerous special nieces including Lisa Farmer, Debbie Tyler, Anita Gray, Tammy Daniels; nephews; her special friend, Raymond “RL” Jones; and many other family and loved ones.
She is reunited in heaven with her parents, Bert and Bruce Faircloth; her husband, Earl Tanner; her son, Mitchell Tanner; a special cousin whom was like a daughter, Mary “Dolly” Simmons; her brother, Ernest “Sambo” Faircloth; her sisters, Mittie “Peggy” Hodges, Rainey “Joyce” Brown, and Geraldine “Bea” Parker; a great grandson, Karson Smith; a niece, Linda Horne. We can only imagine the joyous celebration they are having being back together and are certain there is much laughter, baby rocking, bountiful cooking, and plenty of singing going on.
