Ybeatrice Matthews Sheets

Ybeatrice Matthews Sheets, of Fayetteville, passed away peacefully on August 2, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. Born on September 15, 1943, she lived a life defined by strength and unwavering devotion to those she loved.

She spent her years lifting others — through her work, her generosity, and the countless small acts of love that made her presence a blessing to everyone who knew her. Her advice steadied hearts, and her compassion left a lasting imprint on family and friends.

She is survived by her daughters, Sharon Tew (Frank) and Ydonna Hopper (Steve); granddaughters, Ashley Walker (Jon), Megan Hall (Justin), and Morgan Harper (Robbie); great grandchildren, Justin McElrath, Cooper Hall, Jackson Walker, Vada Jolene Hall, Bradey Harper and Charlie Ray Harper; and her siblings, Lou Daniels (Gerald), Ruth Pope (Wayland), and Dobbin Matthews; many nieces and nephews, all of whom carry her legacy forward in the way they love, serve, and show up for others.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Yveates & Beulah Matthews; husband, Hubert Sheets; siblings JV Matthews, Bobby Matthews (Hazel), Willie Matthews (Betty), Denton Matthews (Lunette), Stella Sipe (John) and Frances Travis (Harvey).

Her absence leaves an ache that words cannot fill, but her love remains — steady, enduring, and forever.

Graveside service will be held Monday, August 24, 2026 at 2:00 PM at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery in Spring Lake.
