Mr. Wilmer Daniel Hughes, 81

RALEIGH

Mr. Wilmer Daniel Hughes, 81 of 1536 Upchurch Woods Drive, Raleigh, passed away Thursday, February 11, 2016 at The Haven at Fuquay Varina.

The funeral will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday, February 14, at Cokesbury United Methodist Church, 7536 Clinton Road, Stedman, with Reverend Michael Elliott officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow at McCall Family Cemetery, Stedman.

Mr. Hughes was born June 25, 1934 in Cumberland County and is preceded in death by his parents, Edward Shields and Fanny McLaurin Hughes; wife, Mary Sue McCall Hughes; son, Alan Lawrence Hughes; daughter, Lori Suzanne Hughes; and brother, Edward Marshburn Hughes.

He retired from the US Air Force after 24 years of service, and from the National Weather Service after 19 years of service.

He is survived by his daughter, Kimberly Hughes Shupe and husband Chris of Raleigh; son, Williams Dwight Hughes of Raleigh; sisters, Shirley Hughes Simmons of Cedar Creek, Frances Hughes Montalvo of Highland, CA; and grandsons, Brandon Alan Shupe, Christopher Michael Shupe both of Raleigh.

The visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Saturday, February 13, at Butler Funeral Home, 6535 Clinton Road, Stedman.
