Stedman
Mr. William Henry New, 75 of Stedman, NC passed away peacefully on Monday, February 17, 2025 at his home. He was born on March 29, 1949 in Sampson County, NC to Jesse Mack New and Sallie Guy New. He was the youngest of seven children
In addition to his parents, Henry is preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife of 55 years, Frances Pridgen New; his sisters, Stella Mae Tanner, Ruth Hendricks, Jean McLamb, Roxie Sessoms; and a brother, Jesse Mack “Bud” New, Jr.
Henry is survived by his two daughters, Angela N. Blanton (David) of Burgaw, NC and Tracie A. Carnes (Jason) of Fayetteville, NC; a granddaughter, Brittany F. Blanton; two grandsons, David H. Blanton and Aaron M. Blanton; and “the best hug giver ever” his great- granddaughter, Kylie Blanton; and his sister, Margaret Smith of Jacksonville, NC.
After his service in the Army, Henry and Frances settled in Stedman and began the daunting task of raising two daughters. While his daughters thought his way of thinking and house rules were a times “old school” and “unfair”, they would later in life understand that he was teaching them fundamental skills and preparing them for adulthood.
Henry was an outdoor enthusiast. He enjoyed everything from fishing, hunting, and target shooting or just sitting outside and enjoying the scenery around him. He respected nature and the lessons it gave to us; all of which he shared with his daughters and grandchildren. Henry was well known in the Hunt Test world for his Labrador Retrievers (Gunner, Goose, Ace, Jack and Chance). He ran in local clubs such as Lumber River Retriever Club and Down East all the way to NAHRA and AKC with all Retrievers holding titles. He made many friends and drove many miles al NC, SC, VA, TN, etc. earning him the title ….. The Man, The Myth and The Legend.
He was a man of few words, but when he spoke, you listened and you learned. Never one to sugarcoat how he felt or his opinion, you always knew where you stood with him. Henry was a respected man amongst his friends and family. He loved to laugh and always had a quick-witted one-liner ready to go. He loved his family and he will be deeply missed by them but they take comfort in knowing that he has reunited in the Kingdom of Heaven with his wife, Frances.
