William Branson Matthews, 88 went to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 16, 2021 at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, December 20, 2021 at Center Baptist Church, officiating will be Rev. Joe Hickson. Burial will follow at Maxwell Cemetery in Autryville.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 1:50 PM on Monday prior to the service at the church.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Shadrick Matthews and Maggie Autry Matthews; wife, Esther Baker Matthews.; son, Gareth Baker; and sisters, Esther Matthews Carner and Eugenia Matthews Williams.
He is survived by his son, Graham Deryan Matthews; daughter, Melissa “Lisa” Matthews Rosser & husband, Joseph Ray Rosser; grandchildren, Dillon Lee Matthews & wife, Taylor, Valerie Ann Rosser, and Joseph Matthew Rosser; great grandchildren, Bellagray Hawley, Dawson Matthews, and Bryce Matthews; and a brother, Wilbert Coley Matthews.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Center Baptist Church, 4980 Wade-Stedman Road, Wade, NC 28395; or to Bethany Volunteer Fire Department, 2140 Wade Stedman Road, Stedman, NC 28391.
Services entrusted to Butler Funeral Home, 6535 Clinton Road, Stedman, NC 28391.
