William Ambrose Dowd Jr. of Stedman, 89, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, September 24, 2026, at Valley Hospice House, surrounded by his loving family.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 22, 2026, at Concord Baptist Church, with Pastor Charles Holland officiating. The Burial will follow at Concord Baptist Church Cemetery with Military Honors and Masonic Rites.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 2:50 p.m. at the church prior to the service.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Florence Hubbard Dowd; and his brother, Carlton Reece.

He was born in Cumberland County to William Dowd Sr. and Mable Britt Dowd. William proudly served his country in the United States Navy for 26 years, retiring with the rank of Senior Chief Petty Officer. He was also a proud member of the Masonic Lodge and a faithful member of Concord Baptist Church. His faith in God was an important part of his life, and he treasured his church, his family, and the many friendships he made throughout the years. He shared 72 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Florence. In his spare time, he especially enjoyed golfing and spending time with those he loved. He will be remembered for his dedication to his country, his love for his family, and the faith that guided his life.

He is survived by his children, Peggy Word and husband Bill; David Dowd and wife Jennifer; Billy Dowd; and Angela Utley and husband Gary. He also leaves behind nine grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren, which will cherish his memory.

He is also survived by his brother, Claude Dowd and wife Linda; his sisters, Hellen Lane and husband Jacky, and Dorothy Ussery; his sister-in-law, Janice Mobley and a multitude of Nieces and Nephews.

Services are entrusted to Butler Funeral Home, 6535 Clinton Road, Stedman, NC 28391.
