SALEMBURG Mr. William Carey Ayers, III, 22 of 2440 N. Salemburg Highway, Salemburg, died peacefully on Sunday, August 26, 2012 at his home after a long and courageous battle with brain cancer. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, August 29, 2012 at Butler Funeral Home in Stedman with Dr. Phil Spears and Rev. Donald Keith Carter officiating. Burial will follow at Sunrise Memorial Gardens in Salemburg. Mr. Ayers was born on April 2, 1990 in Cumberland County. He is preceded in death by his step-mother, Sherry Lynn Ayers; his paternal grandfather, William Carey Ayers; his maternal grandfather, Jessie Mac West; and his niece, Madison Skye Tew. He graduated from Cape Fear High School in 2008 and was a Color Guard Instructor. He is survived by: his mother, Sharon West Stumpf and husband, John of the home; his father, William Carey Ayers, Jr. and fiancé, Laura Kruger of Stedman; his siblings, Jamie Lyn Tew and husband, John of Roseboro, Amy Williams and husband, Shaun of Salemburg, Brittany Christine Johnson of Wilmington and James Bryce Ayers of Stedman; his paternal grandmother, Eleanor Ayers Hairr and husband, Wilbert of Stedman; his maternal grandmother, Mae Blondell West of Salemburg; his maternal great grandmother, Luada Strickland McLamb of Salemburg; his nieces and nephews, Bryan Hatcher, Sara Tew, John Davis and Tyler Tew; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 P.M. at Butler Funeral Home in Stedman and other times at the home.
