WILMINGTON
Mr. Warren H. Autry, 95, of Wilmington, formerly of Stedman, passed away peacefully Saturday, November 14, 2015, at The Commons of Brightmore in Wilmington. Warren was born in Cumberland County, the son of the late William James and Jeanette Geddie Autry. He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Myrtle Bunce Autry, and is now singing with her in Heaven. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Maxie Autry and Carson Autry, and his sister, Katie Fisher.
Mr. Autry retired in 1982 as a Computer Programmer Analyst after 34 years of service at Fort Bragg, NC. He proudly served his country in the US Navy in WWII and Korean War. He was a member of Magnolia Baptist Church, where he formerly served as Deacon, Sunday School Director, Sunday School Secretary and Trustee. Warren was a charter member of Bethany Community Center where he served as Director and Treasurer for many years. He was also former Director of Bethany Fire Department. He was a life member of VFW Post 9925, a member of Gideons International Wilmington South. He was also a lifetime member of NARFE chapter 0276 in Fayetteville, NC.
Mr. Autry is survived by his three sons, Don Autry of Stedman, Wayne Autry and wife Kay of Fayetteville, Royce Autry of Wilmington; one daughter, Joyce Jordan and husband Ron of Wilmington; eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held 3:00 pm Wednesday, November 18 at Magnolia Baptist Church, 1021 Magnolia Church Road, Stedman, with Reverend Jason Whitfield, Reverend Jerry Parsons, and Reverend Chris Wroten officiating. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service.
The family would like to thank the Staff at The Commons of Brightmore in Wilmington for the kindness, care and compassion that you gave to our Father for the past 10 months. He loved the attention that you all gave to him. A special thank you to Sabrina, his Hospice Aid, for the extra TLC that you gave him. You are all very special.
