Ret. SFC Walter Preston Howell, 87 went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 22, 2026 at his home.
Funeral will be held at 10:45 AM Thursday, April 30, 2026 at Butler Funeral Home Chapel in Stedman, officiating will be Pastor Kevin Edwards. Burial with full military honors will follow at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery in Spring Lake.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM Thursday at the funeral home prior to the service.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Samuel Walter Howell and Ruth Harnage Howell; wife, Wanda Hutsell Howell; son, James Hutsell; grandson Kevin Hutsell; and siblings, Charles Howell, Larry Howell, Marcus Howell, Valinda Jacobs, and Susan Pheylene Caraway.
Walter retired from the United States Army, and was a Vietnam Veteran. He was also a member of Praise Fellowship Church of God.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his children, Tracey Jose (Edgardo); son, Richard Howell; daughter, Christina Howell; daughter-in-law, Catherine Howell; grandchildren, Camerin Watson (Kentsey), Benjamin Hutsell (Logan), and Steven Hutsell; great grandchildren, Reagan Watson and Carson Hutsell; siblings, Carmalita Caswell, Minerva Alford and Donald Howell.
