Mrs. Vonnie Lou Herman, 79

September 29, 1934 — February 2, 2014

EASTOVER Mrs. Vonnie Lou Herman, 79, of Eastover passed away at her home Sunday, February 2nd, 2014. She was retired from the Cumberland County School System where she worked for over 30 years as a cafeteria cashier in both Eastover Central Elementary and Armstrong Middle Schools. After retirement, she worked for ten years with Draughon Produce Co. She was one of ten children of the late James Andrew Draughon and Alice Jane Draughon. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by a son, Curtis Herman. A funeral service will be held at 3:00 P.M., Wednesday, February, 5th at Stedman Church of God of Prophecy in Stedman with Pastor Don Baldwin and Pastor J.D. Tew officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. Herman was born and raised in Eastover and graduated from, what was then, Central High School. At age 21 she married Eugene Herman. They were happily married for fifty-eight years until her passing. She was a dedicated and life-long member of Stedman Church of God of Prophecy. Known affectionately as "Gouch" by her family, Vonnie was a devoted wife, mother and loving grandmother. A hard worker, she enjoyed staying busy, particularly in her yard where she tended the flower beds and kept the grass mowed. She is survived by her husband, Eugene Herman of the home; daughters, Mary Swindell of Charlotte and Robin Johnson of Eastover; sister, Lucille Canady of Eastover; grandchildren, Robbie Johnson and Ashley Herman of Eastover, Christopher Herman of Charlotte and Holly Swindell of Concord; daughter-in-law, Debbie Herman of Eastover. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M., Tuesday, February 4th at Butler Funeral Home, 6535 Clinton Rd., Stedman, NC. Services entrusted to Butler Funeral Home of Stedman. A funeral service will be held at 3:00 P.M., Wednesday, February, 5th at Stedman Church of God of Prophecy in Stedman with Pastor Don Baldwin and Pastor J.D. Tew officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M., Tuesday, February 4th at Butler Funeral Home, 6535 Clinton Rd., Stedman, NC.
