Virgil Gray Bunce, 77 passed away on Tuesday, January 28, 2025 at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

A graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM Thursday, January 30, 2025 at Bethany Oasis Church Cemetery, officiating will be Pastor Eddie Williams.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM to 12:50 PM Thursday at the church prior to the graveside.

Virgil is preceded in death by his parents, James Eldon Bunce and Ellise Autry Bunce; brother, Verlyn Bunce; and his grandson, Dylan Hardee.

Virgil loved horses and all kinds of sports.  He was a UNC Tarheel fan.  He was a Referee for many years for Cumberland and Sampson County Schools.  He was also an MVP World Champion Soft Ball Player.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his daughters, Michelle Williams (Eddie) of Fayetteville, Marsha Brenes (Rob) of Denver, NC, Melissa Hardee of Stedman, and Melanie Carter (Chad) of St. John's, FL; grandchildren, Christian Williams (Morgan), Mariah Landry (Nicholas), Spencer Brenes, Mason Brenes, Luke Brenes, Chloe Caws (Bretton), Jaxson Carter MacKenzie Carter and Trevor Carter; great grandchildren, Maverick, Kinsley and Everleigh Williams, Ophelia Caws and Israel Landry.
