Verna Louise Barnes Gardner, 79

ROSEBORO

Mrs. Verna Louise Barnes Gardner, 79 of the Beaver Dam Community, Roseboro, passed away Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at Southwood Nursing and Retirement Center.

The funeral will be held at 3:00 pm Sunday, June 25, at Roseboro First Baptist Church, 3720 S. Salemburg Highway, Roseboro, with Reverend Hampton Faircloth officiating. Interment will follow at Beaver Dam Baptist Church Cemetery.

Born August 24, 1937 in Sampson County, she was the daughter of the late George Carl and Hermie McLamb Barnes. She was also preceded in death by her brother, James Barnes; and sister, Alice Grace Barnes. She was a retired School Teacher having taught in Bladen, Sampson, and Cumberland County Public Schools. She was a member of Beaver Dam Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Leroy Herman Gardner; daughters, LeCarla Royal and husband Keith of Stedman, and Mary Hummel of New Hampshire; grandchildren, Samantha Sabo, Gabriel Dewey, Carley Jones Ward and husband Hunter, and Meghan Royal; and great grandchild, Matthew Ward.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 pm Saturday evening at Butler Funeral Home, 401 W. Roseboro Street, Roseboro, and other times at the home of her daughter, LeCarla, 5191 Jaycee Street, Stedman.
