ROSEBORO Mr. Tony Derek Simpson, 49, passed away peacefully, Thursday, May 6, 2015 surrounded by his family and friends. Tony and his brother Jeff were lifelong partners in their tobacco farming operation in the Beaver Dam community, which was a long tradition of their family. Jeff is the farm manager and Tony's skills as the best tobacco curer were unprecedented. In 2006, Tony was named Cumberland County Farmer of the Year. He and his family also owned and operated Beaver Dam Seafood for nearly thirty years. Tony loved his family, his friends, and was an avid hunter. He loved to hunt all kinds of game, but bear in particular. Not only did he love to hunt in his community, he enjoyed going on hunting excursions around the country with his niece Halee. In addition Tony was a longtime member of the Parkersburg Bear Club. He was also a lifelong, dedicated member of Beaver Dam Baptist Church. Tony was preceded in death by his father William Bernice Simpson; his paternal grandparents, Frank and Frances Simpson; and his maternal grandparents, Luke and Annie Rue Hales. He is survived by his mother, Maude Hales Simpson; his brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. William Jeffrey Simpson; niece Halee Ann Simpson; and a large extended family. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Saturday, May 9, 2015 at Butler Funeral Home, Roseboro. The funeral service will be held at 4:00 P.M. Sunday, May 10, 2015 at Beaver Dam Baptist Church, Roseboro. Burial will follow in the family cemetery at Clay Fork Hill Road, Roseboro. Arrangements entrusted to Butler Funeral Home, 401 W. Roseboro Street, Roseboro.
