SALEMBURG Mr. Timothy Roger White, 47 of 641 Lyman Road, died on Sunday, June 7, 2009 at Duke Medical Center in Durham. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 10, 2009 at 3:00 P.M. at Salemburg Baptist Church with Rev. John Adams and Rev. Jimmie Suggs officiating. Burial will follow at Sunrise Memorial Gardens in Salemburg. Mr. White was born in 1961 in Sampson County and is preceded in death by his mother, Inez Holland White and a sister, Edna Grace Jones. Tim graduated from Lakewood High School in 1980 where he played varsity baseball for four years. After high school, he joined the United States Navy and was stationed aboard the USS Ranger aircraft carrier and served tours of duty that included the Indian Ocean. After leaving active duty with the Navy, Tim earned a Telephone Technician Certificate from Central Community College in Sanford, NC. He began working in the telecommunications industry with Globe Communications in Durham and later worked with AT&T, KH Smith Communications and Net Technologies as a communications engineer. During his career in communications, he earned the Registered Communications Distribution Designer certification. Tim was a member of Salemburg Baptist Church where he volunteered with Operation InAsMuch for several years. Tim spent many hours cheering for his beloved Carolina Tarheels whether on the football field, basketball court or baseball diamond. He was an equally enthusiastic fan of the Lakewood Leopards, his high school alma mater. He was an avid outdoorsman and shared with his son the love of hunting and fishing. They were members of the Tomahawk Hunting Club. Mr. White is survived by: his wife, Anna F. White of the home; one son, Timothy Lyman White of the home; his father and step-mother, Rev. Roger and Mildred White of Roseboro; four sisters, Emily Thornton of Clinton, Bonnie Parker of Benson, Mary Love Allen of Four Oaks, and Ruth Ann Godwin of Wade; numerous nieces and nephews, and many beloved friends. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 6 until 8 P.M. at Butler Funeral Home, 401 W. Roseboro Street, Roseboro, and other times at the home.
