Mr. Terry Devon Matthews, 55 of 3092 Ozzie Road, Clinton, passed away Saturday, July 30, 2016 at his home.

The funeral will be held at 3:00 pm Thursday, August 4, at Union Grove Baptist Church, 395 Vander Road, Salemburg, with Reverend Paul Honeycutt and Reverend Roosevelt Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery.

Born on January 1, 1961 in Autryville, and is preceded in death by his father, Royal Devon “Billy” Matthews. He was a correctional officer having served 20 plus years, a graduate of Clement High School and member of Union Grove Baptist Church where he was a member of the choir and Sunday school teacher. He retired early from Sampson Correctional Institution due to his illness.

He is survived by his wife, Chante Taylor Matthews of Clinton; mother, Edna Williford Matthews of Autryville; sister, Lisa Davis and spouse Mark of Dunn; sons, Travis Devon Matthews and spouse Kelli of Dunn, and Jonathan Lee Matthews and spouse Ashley of Autryville; stepson, Kyrie Taylor of Clinton; grandchildren, Mason Royal Matthews of Dunn, and Noah Scott Matthews of Autryville; aunts and uncles, Dora Pla of Raleigh, Clifford Williford and spouse Alice of Clinton, Ruth Fowler and spouse Charles of Knightdale, Mary Ann Ritenour and spouse Chuck of Derry, PA, Linda Pearl Chestnutt and spouse Richard of Clinton, and James Larry Williford of Dunn; and nieces, Jessica Davis and Olivia Davis of Dunn.

The visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Wednesday, August 3, at Butler Funeral Home, 401 W. Roseboro Street, Roseboro, and other times at his home or the home of his mother, 3205 Howard Road, Autryville.
