Selby Carson Spell surrounded by his loving family, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 19, 2021 at the age of 75.
A funeral service will be at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, December 21, 2021 at Butler Funeral Home in Roseboro with the Reverend Billy Hall officiating. Burial will follow at Spell Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 - 1:50 PM at the funeral home prior to the service.
Born in the Roseboro Clinic on November 15, 1946, to the late Earl and Iula Hall Spell. Selby grew up on the family farm in Roseboro area of Sampson County.
After graduating from Roseboro-Salemburg High School in 1965, Selby joined the Army. He served in Germany and Vietnam. After, his discharge from the Army. He worked in management with Texi-Fi in Fayetteville. His work took him to the New Port Beach Area of California where he made his home for over 50 years. After his cancer diagnosis, he returned to his home in Sampson County.
Selby was also predeceased by his sisters, Alma Honeycutt Autry, Blanche McLamb and infant Avis Jean, a brother, Earl Delano Spell.
He is survived by sisters, Janet Thompson and Patsy Markham both of Fayetteville, Genevieve Humbert of Hardeeville, SC and Kathy Baker of Dunn; brother, Woody Spell of Roseboro.
He is also survived by special nieces, Phoebe Honeycutt West and Sondra McLamb Tew, also several nieces and nephews; special friends Jeanette Royal, Woody and Beth McLamb, Bill and Debbie Sessoms, Barbara and Jim Summitt and Jerry McLamb.
Selby loved life, God, his family and his Newport Beach life. He will be missed.
The family thanks everyone for their calls, food, cards and prayers during the last several months.
