Hayden, Alabama
Sandra Michelle Daley Poole, of Hayden, AL, passed away on the morning of July 1 after a long illness. Born on December 30, 1963 to the late Stanley Jefferson Hitchens Daley and Eleanor Gay Sewell in Fayetteville, NC, she graduated from Pine Forest High School, then attended the School of the Arts in Philadelphia, PA.
For many years in the 1980s and early 90s, she was on the staff of the Tavern, Inc (the Flaming Mug, et. al) in Fayetteville, NC, which had, at that time, one of the largest live rock and roll venues in the Southeast. She worked with acts ranging from local touring bands to nationally-known artists (including George Thorogood, Joan Jett and Mick Fleetwood). She had a vibrant, outgoing personality and was well-loved by the regulars.
In 1994, she married Stephen Poole of Raeford, NC; in 1998, the Pooles moved to the Birmingham, AL area, where Stephen was employed with Crawford Broadcasting Company as Chief Engineer. In 1999, she was struck by Pseudotumor Cerebri, which badly damaged her vision and left her with other neural impairments. In spite of her condition, she put herself through the Alabama Vocational Rehabilitation program and went to work as a Benefits Authorizer with Social Security at the Southeastern Program Service Center (SEPSC) in Birmingham, AL.
She was appointed several times to serve as Chair/Co-Chair for the Combined Federal Campaign while at the SEPSC. Each year that she participated, the goals set by the United Way for the CFC were met and exceeded. She remained at Social Security until 2018, when her worsening condition forced her to retire early on disability.
She will be remembered as a sweet, caring and giving person who hated to see anyone suffer. She loved life and loved people. She was a devout Christian. She is survived by her mother and stepfather, Eleanor Sewell and Johnnie Sewell; a sister, Robyn Cabell (husband Jim), and a niece, Haley Cabell, all of Raeford, NC; a nephew, Joshua Daley (wife Paige) and grand nieces Marlee and Kaylee, and grand nephews Bradon and William, all of Carson, CA.
A memorial service and celebration of life will be held on July 16th, 2022 at 3PM at Butler Funeral Home Chapel in Stedman, NC, officiating will be Rev. Louis Pender.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Childrens Hospital, one of the many charities that she enthusiastically supported.
