Ruth Mary (Lupo) Matthews, 84 passed away peacefully on Friday, December 13, 2024 at her home surrounded by her family.

Funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM Tuesday, December 17, 2024 at Clement Baptist Church, officiating will be Rev. Tim McQueen, Rev. Scott Keith, and Rev. Caleb Autry.  Burial will follow at Old Bluff Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 2:50 PM Tuesday at the church prior to the service.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Harvey Lupo and Ara Strickland Lupo; sister and brother-in-law, Doris and Edwin Winship; son-in-law, Keith Adams; and brother-in-law, Wallace Jernigan.

Ruth was a longtime member of Clement Baptist Church.  She also retired with 44 years of service as a bookkeeper with Cumberland County Schools.  Ruth made 1,147 dresses for homeless children in the United States and in other countries.  She loved her family and spent her final days enjoying holding hands with each of them.

Ruth leaves to cherish her memory, her husband of almost 67 years, A B Matthews of the home; her daughters, Angela Adams of Wade, Janine Mullis & husband Michael, of Palm Coast, FL, and Gretchen Averitte & husband, Mitchell of Newport, NC; grandchildren, Matthew Adams, Kyle Adams and Emelyn Averitte; sister, Byrd Jernigan of Wade.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ruth’s memory to the Scholarship Fund at Clement Baptist Church, 6020 Maxwell Road, Autryville, NC  28318.
