Mr. Roland Grant Hall, 86 of Roseboro went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, May 7, 2025 at WakeMed Hospital surrounded by his family.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, May 12, 2025 at Butler Funeral Home in Roseboro with Reverend Andy Wood and Reverend Dennis Guy officiating. The burial will follow at Roseboro Cemetery with Military Honors.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Sunday, May 11, 2025 at Butler Funeral Home in Roseboro.
Roland joined the National Guard in 1955, and then transitioned to the U.S. Air Force, where he served until 1967. After his Air Force service, Roland joined the U.S. Army, serving two tours of combat duty in Vietnam. He received the Army Commendation Medal two times, and he also received the Bronze Star twice. He retired as a Chief Warrant Officer. He served as Mayor for the Town of Roseboro from 2007 to 2011 and longtime Councilman starting in 1992. Roland recently received the Order of the Long Leaf Pine Award on April 26, 2025. This award is given by the Governor of North Carolina.
Roland has served on many boards throughout the county, region and state, including the Mid-Carolina Council of Government, the Fort Bragg Regional Land Use Committee, Sampson Community College Foundation, the Roseboro-Area Economic Development Committee and the Western Sampson Commerce Group, Sampson Regional Medical Center Foundation board, the Sampson County Economic Development Advisory Board, Mid-Carolina Workforce Development Board, and the Sampson-Clinton Rotary Club, where he was chosen as a Paul Harris Fellow twice.
Roland was also a member of the Roseboro Masonic Lodge #585, the Scottish Rite in Wilmington and the Sudan Shriners.
Roland was a native of Sampson County, the son of Albert Robert and Vila B. McCall Hall. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Earlene Reaves; and his brother, Roy Hall.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 49 years, Mabel Lockamy Hall of the home; three children, Phillip Young; Terry Hall and wife, Katrina; and Bobbi Shoop and husband, Brian; his brother, Leamon Hall and wife, Marilyn; his sister, Treva Held; six grandchildren, Kolbi, Kylee, Noah, Kalyn, Alexander and Seth; and his great-grandson, Robert.
In lieu of flowers donation may be made to Long Branch Baptist Church, 2868 Minnie Hall Rd, Autryville, NC 28318.
