Mr. Robert John Wheeler, Sr., 77 of Roseboro passed away on Monday, December 26, 2022 at Duke Medical Center.

The funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM Friday, December 30, 2022 at Roseboro Methodist Church with Rev. Bobby Herring and Father John Williams officiating.  Graveside service will follow at Sunrise Memorial Gardens.

A visitation will be held on Friday at Roseboro Methodist Church from 2:00 – 2:50 PM prior to the service.

Mr. Wheeler was a native of Brooklyn, New York, but has spent the last 45 years living in Roseboro, North Carolina.

Lovingly known by family and friends as “Bob”, he started at a young age as an owner and operator of multiple restaurants, where he met and married his sweetheart, Harper. They were married for 54 years.

He served in the 1st Marine Division during the Vietnam War earning several medals including a bronze star and two purple hearts. He was Scout Master of Roseboro Troop 38 for twenty years receiving the Silver Beaver award and Wood Badge to recognize his leadership and service to scouting.

Bob’s career in the restaurant business led him to start Taste of Country Restaurants in Warsaw and Wilmington which he operated for 23 years. When he was not working at the restaurants, he spent his time on the water sailing. Bob was a beloved member of the Roseboro Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Harper Wheeler of the home; two sons, Robert Wheeler, Jr. of Wilmington and Todd Wheeler of Roseboro; one daughter, Lisa DeCosa of Florida; and two granddaughters, Brianna Wheeler and Leah Wheeler. He was preceded in death by his son, Michael Wheeler.
