Mr. Robert Lee Johnson, 79

VANDER Mr. Robert Lee Johnson was born August 29, 1933 in Cumberland County to the late Purdie and Alice Alphin Johnson. He passed away on Thursday, November 1, 2012 after a long battle with cancer. He married Haskell Carter on April 12, 1952 and their marriage lasted 60+ years. Robert believed in and loved his God. He was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church. In his better days he held positions in the church as Sunday School Superintendent, Deacon, and choir member. He was the Fire Chief of Vander Volunteer Fire Department for 15+ years and helped establish the Vander Fire Department in December of 1957. He worked 42 years with the NC Department of Transportation Road Maintenance Department and was a very dedicated employee. He retired on May 1, 1994 after a decline in his health. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, November 4, 2012, in Macedonia Baptist Church with Pastor Steven Lloyd and Rev. Tommy Honeycutt officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives Saturday, November 3, 2012 from 6-8 PM at Butler Funeral Home in Stedman. Survivors include wife, Haskell Carter Johnson of Vander; daughters, Gayle Beasley and husband, Durwood of Cedar Creek, Sheila Bullock and husband Roy of Fayetteville, Vanessa Warren and husband, Jay of Hanover, PA; three grandchildren, Christy Barefoot of Burlington, Jayson Warren and wife, Grace of Texas, and Ethan Warren and wife Ashley of Florida. His chair companion, Boots, his cat. Many nieces and nephews. Mr. Johnson was proceeded in death by sisters, Catherine Register, Doris Griffin, Bertha Harris, Alice (Mag) Currie and brothers, James Kirby, Otha, Raymon, Donald Gray and son-in-law, Randy Barefoot. Services entrusted to Butler Funeral Home, 6535 Clinton Road, Stedman, NC Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, November 4, 2012, in Macedonia Baptist Church with Pastor Steven Lloyd and Rev. Tommy Honeycutt officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives Saturday, November 3, 2012 from 6-8 PM at Butler Funeral Home in Stedman.
