FAYETTEVILLE Mr. Robert Leighton "Bobby" West, 72, died on Saturday, December 8, 2012 at his home in Fayetteville. He was born on March 1, 1940 the son of Mr. & Mrs. Robert P. West. Bobby attended Lewisburg Junior College playing baseball and basketball. He graduated from UNC Chapel Hill, where he played varsity baseball. Bobby valiantly served his country in the United States Marine Corp completing a tour in Vietnam. Bobby returned to N.C. and was employed by the Department of Defense at Fort Bragg until his retirement. Bobby loved fishing, his summer garden, riding in his truck, being a loyal UNC football and basketball fan, and was always ready and willing to share his advice with the coaches. He also enjoyed a special relationship with his nephews, Matthew West and Baker West. Bobby was preceded in death by his father, Robert P. West. He is survived by his mother, Sabra Hall West of Greensboro and formerly of Fayetteville; his sisters and brother-in-laws, Annette and Rodney Clinard of Greensboro, N.C. and Melinda and Travis Maxwell of Hendersonville, N.C.; his brother and sister-in-law, Howard and Beth West of Columbia, S.C.; his nephews, Matthew West and Baker West; and his beloved pet, Rod Cat. A service of remembrance will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, December 15, 2012 at Butler Funeral Home in Stedman. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wounded Warriors Family Support, 920 S. 107th Avenue Ste. 250, Omaha, NE 68114, Re: In memory of Robert Leighton West.
