Ret. Major Arthur Joe Douglas, Sr., 84, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 11, 2026 at his home surrounded by his family.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 3:00 PM Friday, April 17, 2026 at Oak Grove Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church in Stedman, officiating will be Pastor David Taylor.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 2:50 PM Friday at the church prior to the service.
Burial with full military honors will take place at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
Joe was born on August 27, 1941 in Jellico, TN to the late Arthur Larry Douglas and Ruth Williams Douglas. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his half-sister, Amy Douglas Smith.
He retired from the United States Marines and was a longtime member of Oak Grove Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church. Joe loved God, his country, and especially his family. He will truly be missed by all who knew him.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife, Elvira Garza Douglas; children, Nina Douglas Morton, Arthur Joe Douglas, Jr., Kathleen Rene Blake (Randy Blake), Cynthia Douglas Schuler, Ann Marie Douglas, and Niel Schuler, who was like a second son to him; 15 grandchildren, Carmen D. Headden, Derick S. Hannah, Jeffrey D. Morton, Jr., Joseph Tyler, Brittanie Owens, Kendall Blake, Christian Frisby, Grace Blake, Justin Douglas, Lacie Jo Frates, Michael, Mathew and Jonathan Schuler, Mia Douglas Walters, and Serdaria Smith; 18 great grandchildren, Jonathan Alan Headden, Kaylee Paige Headden, Ava Leilani Hannah, Jacob Austin Hannah, Brody H. Price, Cassidy Jae Morton, Jaylen Christopher Bradley, Austin Tyler, Logan Ryan Owens, Claire Elizabeth Owens, Charlotte Gray Blake, Madison Claira Douglas, Owen Arthur Frates, Preston Vincent Schuler, Oliver Mark Schuler, Kayden James Schuler, Kyler Niel Schuler, Calvin Alexander Schuler, Landon John Schuler, Wrenley Nichole Schuler, Jane Marie Schuler and Callum Arthur Schuler; and his half-brother, Kenneth Ray Douglas.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joe's memory to Oak Grove Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church.
