CSM (R) Brian Keith Meyers passed suddenly on 2 July 2024. Leaving behind a fulfilling life with friends, large loving family and very successful Military, post Military, SERE career.
Command Sergeant Major Brian K. Meyers was born in Lafayette, Indiana on 30 April 1962. He entered the U.S. Army on 1 May 1984 and attended OSUT training, followed by Airborne School at Fort Benning, Georgia.
CSM Meyers has held numerous leadership positions ranging from Infantry Team Leader to Brigade Command Sergeant Major. His past assignments include: 19 years in the 82D Airborne Division where he's held every position in the Infantry from M203 Grenadier to Command Sergeant Major, four years in Alaska where he was a Long Range Surveillance Squad leader, and two years at Fort Benning as a Drill Sergeant. CSM Meyers' overseas assignments include the Multinational Force and Observers Sinai Egypt, Joint Task Force Bravo (Honduras), multiple tours in Iraq (where he was awarded the Purple Heart and earned multiple Bronze Stars), and Operation Unified Response (Haiti).
CSM Meyers' Military Education includes Primary Leadership Development Course, Basic NCO Course, Advance NCO Course, Jungle Warfare School, Drill Sergeant School, Battle Staff Course, First Sergeant Course, Airborne School, Jump Master School, Ranger School, Pathfinder School, Air-Assault School, SERE High Risk (Level C), Sergeants Major Academy, and Command Sergeant Major course.
CSM Meyers awards and decorations includes the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star medal w/3 OLC, Purple Heart, Meritorious Service Medal w/4 OLC, Joint Army Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal w/4 OLC, Army Achievement Medal w/6
OLC, Meritorious Unit Citation, Army Good Conduct Medal 8th award, National Defense Service Medal w/2 Bronze Stars, Iraq Campaign Medal w/3 Bronze Stars, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon w/numeral 4, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon 2ND Award, Multinational Forces and Observers Medal, Combat Infantryman's Badge, Expert Infantryman's Badge, Ranger Tab, Master Parachutist Badge, Pathfinder Badge, Air Assault Badge, and the Drill Sergeant Badge. Foreign awards include the Honduran Jump Master Wings, Australian Jump Wings, Chilean Jump Wings, and German Jump Wings, German Armed Forces Efficiency Badge (Gold), German Army Marksmanship Badge (Gold). CSM Meyers is a member of the Sergeant Audie Murphy Club and the Order of Saint Maurice.
CSM Meyers retired from the Army as the Brigade Command Sergeant Major for 2D BCT, 325th AIR, 82D Airborne Division.
Brian’s SERE career began in 2011 at the SWIC SERE program on Camp Mackall NC as a contract instructor, which later lead him to the MARINE Corps MARSOC SERE program, JSOC SERE program and again home to the SWIC program.
As CSM Meyers’ former BN Commander COL(R) Larry Swift summarized and many others whose lives Brian touched would agree, “CSM Brian Meyers, an incredible leader, Paratrooper, mentor, father and husband…a role model in all he did...he was part of the Army’s “old breed” and he was my friend..RIP BD 7, you left everything better than you found it, I will miss you.”
Brian has been happily married to the love of his life, Lisa Voelker Meyers for 38 years. He is survived by his beloved wife, Lisa, daughter Ashley and husband Michael Turmelle, his son Zachary, and 2 beautiful grandchildren: Hunter and Charlotte, who he loved with all his heart. He is preceded in death, by his Mother Karen H. Meyers. He leaves behind to Cherish his Memory, his Father CSM(R) Paul K Meyers, Kathy Harris, Sister Laura Sanders, Brothers Bradley Meyers, Bruce Meyers and Bryce Meyers; mother-in-law, Margaret W. Gunter; father-in-law, James L. Voelker; brother-in-law, Joseph M. Voelker and many nieces, nephews, extended family from both the Meyer side and the Voelker side; and many friends.
Funeral service will be held at 12:30 PM Friday, July 12, 2024 at All American Chapel (Building 7242 Ardennes St., Fort Liberty, NC 28310), officiating will be Rev. Tom Counts and Chaplain Jeffrey Hawkins. Burial with full military honors will be at 2:00 PM Friday at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery in Spring Lake.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM to 12:30 PM Friday at the church prior to the service.
