One of God's most devoted and faithful servants, Rebecca Bowers Rivers, went to be with the Lord October 31, 2016, after a courageous journey with cancer. Rebecca was born November 9, to Essie and Jack Faircloth in Salemburg, N.C. Rebecca was a loving and caring wife to her husband, John Rivers, for 11 years. She had a truly unconditional and boundless love for her grandchildren.
Rebecca graduated from Campbell College High School, and Woman's College of the University of North Carolina. She began teaching in Greensboro, and during her career that spanned more than 40 years, she taught in Brunswick and Horry County schools. She finished her career at Myrtle Beach Elementary as an ESOL teacher.
Rebecca leaves behind her husband, John; a son, Scott Bowers; four grandchildren: Michelle, Zachary, Emily Grace, and Rebekah. She is survived by her sisters Barbara Holland (Anglo) and Sue Fallin (Ken) of Goldsboro, N.C., brothers Jimmie Faircloth (Annis) of Kenansville, N.C., and Jerry Faircloth (Lynn) of Salemburg, N.C. She is also survived by John's two sons Scott C. of LasVegas, NV and Nicholas W. of Rocton, IL., and grandchildren Caden and Rachel.
We love you dearly, Rebecca, and know we will see you again dwelling in the house of the Lord forever.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Private inurnment will be held for the family in Salemburg, N.C. Condolences may be sent to the family through John Rivers, 116 Cloey Road, Myrtle Beach, S.C. 29579.
