STEDMAN Mr. Raymond Avery Kennedy, 88 of 7284 Clinton Road, died on Friday, July 9, 2010 at the Hope Mills Retirement Center in Hope Mills. The funeral service will be held on Sunday, July 11, 2010 at 3:00 P.M. at Stedman Baptist Church with Dr. Phil Spears officiating. A graveside service will be held on Sunday, August 22, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. at LaFayette Memorial Park with Masonic Rites and Military Honors. Mr. Kennedy was born on May 25, 1922 in Duplin County to Robert and Carolina Turner Kennedy. He is preceded in death by his wife, Velma Albertson Kennedy. He was a member of the Stedman Masonic Lodge #730 A.F. & A.M. and the V.F.W. Post #9925 in Stedman. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army having served in WWII and retired as a Mechanic with Rohm Haas. Mr. Kennedy is survived by: one son, Barry Kennedy and wife, Marty of North Charleston, S.C.; two daughters, Debbie Herndon of Hope Mills, and Sherry "Cookie" Miranda and husband, Steve; one sister, Rena Herrington of Maryland; five grandchildren, Bradley Kennedy, Katie Rowe, Jason Miranda, Logan "L.B." Herndon and Tyler Miranda; and seven great grandchildren. The family will receive friends on Saturday evening from 6 to 8 P.M. at Butler Funeral Home in Stedman, and other times at the home. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff at Hope Mills Retirement Center for their love and support provided over the past three years.
