Mrs. Rachel Inez Evans Johnson, 89 of Garland went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 18, 2023 at Laurels of Pender.

A funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM Thursday, February 23, 2023 at Parkersburg Baptist Church with Rev. Michael Salisbury officiating.  Burial will follow in the Parkersburg Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6:00  - 8:00 PM on Wednesday evening at Parkersburg Baptist Church.

Mrs. Johnson was a native of Bladen County, the daughter of John Haywood and Elzora West Evans.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Thurman Alton Johnson; sisters, LaRue Pate and Evelyn Coble; brothers, Dennis Evans and Milton Evans;

She was a faithful member of Parkersburg Baptist Church where she was a Sunday School teacher, WMU Treasurer and a faithful servant to her family, church and community.

She is survived by her sons, Thurman Evans Johnson (Julie) and Anthony Lynn Johnson (Mary Anne); daughters, Brenda Sims McKinney (Don) and Amanda E. Johnson; six grandchildren, Joshua Johnson, Daniel Johnson (Shannon), Caleb Johnson (Hailey), Gabrielle Johnson (Taylor), Bryan Hunter Stanton and Erin Clarkson (Matthew); four great grandchildren; and her siblings, Joann Evans Herring, Sandra Stuckey and Michael Evans.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Samaritan’s Purse or Parkersburg Baptist Church WMU.
