Mr. Prentiss W. Williams, 84

December 27, 1929 — March 4, 2014

WADE Mr. Prentiss Wendell Williams, 84 of 2251 Hayfield Road, Wade went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on the evening of March 4, 2014. He lived a wonderful life as a devoted son, husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was a father to all who came to know him. He devoted his life serving as a life long deacon of his church, Center Baptist and caring for others in the community. He was raised the son of a farmer with many siblings and surrounded by a large family in rural Cumberland County. He left the farm to work in the textile mills at an early age to provide for his family. He retired from Burlington Industries in management after 46 ½ years of service. He fought the good fight against cancer that eventually he subcumbed to with little suffering. He prayed for God to take him home. He was preceded in death by his parents, Nathan Campbell Williams and Erma Matthews Williams; brothers Milton Dewey Williams and Herman Elwood Williams; sisters, Marie Williams Black and Doris Williams Autry Buchannan and a special mother-in-law, Alene Autry Coats. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Helen Autry Williams; daughter, Janet Williams Howard and husband, Glenn; special son and daughter, David and Diane Murphy; grandchildren, Kelly Glenn Howard, Summer Victoria Howard, Madeline Aubry Howard, Jody Murphy and family, Meredith and Brian Williams and family; sister, Evelene Williams Leslie and husband, Franklin; brother-in-law, Charles E. Autry and wife, Karen and sister-in-law, Alice Black Williams. He leaves behind a legacy of family where each one held a dear place in his heart. Today we find comfort that there is a joyous reunion taking place with Jesus and all of our loved ones in heaven. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, March 7 from 6-9 PM at Butler Funeral Home in Stedman. Funeral service will be held Saturday, March 8 at 2:00 PM at Center Baptist Church in Wade with the Rev. Joe Hickson, Rev. Lutrell Spell and Rev. Joe Buck officiating.
