Peggy Hughes Edge, 89 went to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 26, 2026 at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

Funeral arrangements will be announced on Tuesday.

Peggy was born in Cumberland County to the late Julian Hughes and Mandy Faircloth Hughes. In addition to her parents she is also preceded in death by her husband, William Lawrence Edge, Sr.; son, William Lawrence Edge, Jr.; siblings, William “Lefty” Hughes, Pauline Simpson, Betty Autry, Donald Hughes, George Harold Hughes, and infant sister, Elva Corinne Hughes.

She was a longtime member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, where she was a Sunday School Teacher. She was also known for the hundreds of birthday cakes that she made.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter, Paula Demetri (George); grandchildren, Sophia and Joshua Demetri, Max Edge (Kaylyn), Bill Edge (Troyanna), and Elizabeth Edge; great grandchildren, Gracelynn, Waylon, Ember, Harrison and Logan Edge; sister, Bonnie Carter (Leo); and numerous nieces and nephews.
