Peggy Hughes Edge, 89 went to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 26, 2026 at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, July 30, 2026 at Butler Funeral Home Chapel in Stedman, officiating will be Pastor Jerry Parsons.  Burial will follow at Carter Edge Family Cemetery (Macedonia Church Road, Fayetteville).

The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 1:50 PM Thursday at the funeral home prior to the service.

Peggy was born in Cumberland County to the late Julian Hughes and Mandy Faircloth Hughes. In addition to her parents she is also preceded in death by her husband, William Lawrence Edge, Sr.; son, William Lawrence Edge, Jr.; siblings, William “Lefty” Hughes, Pauline Simpson, Betty Autry, Donald Hughes, George Harold Hughes, and infant sister, Elva Corinne Hughes; and her grandson, William "Trey" Lawrence Edge, III.

She was a longtime member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, where she was a Sunday School Teacher. She was also known for the hundreds of birthday cakes that she made.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter, Paula Demetri (George); grandchildren, Sophia Demetri, Joshua Demetri, Max Edge (Kaylyn), Bill Edge (Troyanna), and Elizabeth Edge; great grandchildren, Gracelynn, Waylon, Ember, Harrison and Logan Edge; sister, Bonnie Carter (Leo); Daughter in Law, Candy Edge; and numerous nieces and nephews.
