Mrs. Oma Nancy Williams, 78, of Autryville, NC, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, July 3, 2026, at The Carolina Inn at Village Green, surrounded by the love of her family, friends, and caregivers.
Nancy was born in Sampson County, North Carolina, to the late Clayton Freeman and Edith Barnes Freeman. She graduated from Roseboro High School and went straight to work as a receptionist at Valley Volkswagen in Fayetteville, NC. Soon after high school, she met and married her husband, Larry. The two were devoted to each other for 58 years. After Valley Volkswagen, Nancy became an office attendant at Methodist College in Fayetteville, NC. During her time there she became a mother to her only child, a daughter, Lori. After working at the college, she went on to become a banking representative at North Carolina National Bank (NCNB) in Fayetteville, NC, which became Nations Bank and then Bank of America. During this time, she also served as a loving and faithful care giver to her mother, Edith. Nancy retired from the bank after 35 years to pursue her greatest joy in life, which was becoming a grandmother or Grammy as she was affectionately known. Callie and Chloe were her heart, and she loved spending time with them and taking them shopping.
A devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, she lived a life rooted in faith, love, and unwavering dedication to her family. Her magnetic personality, kind heart, and caring nature touched the lives of all who knew her. She never met a stranger and would do anything in her power to help when asked. Nancy found her greatest joy in the kitchen and spread her love to many over the years through her famous sourdough “friendship” bread.
In addition to her parents, Nancy was preceded in death by her loving brothers, JC Freeman, Lathan Freeman, Rufus Freeman, and Larry Freeman. She leaves to cherish her memory her loving husband, Larry R. Williams; her devoted daughter, Lori Cress and husband, Cody; her treasured grandchildren, Callie and Chloe Cress; her loyal granddog, Loni; and a host of extended family members and dear friends who will miss her deeply.
She treasured every moment shared with those she loved and created countless memories that will be cherished for generations. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Long Branch Baptist Church, 2868 Minnie Hall Road, Autryville, NC, at 1 pm on August 8, 2026. The family will receive visitors at a homecoming celebration to be held at Larry and Nancy’s home at 1760 Carry Bridge Road, Autryville, NC, immediately following the church service.
The family would like to thank the village of friends that were angels on Earth for their support and dedication to Nancy. A special appreciation and love go to the outstanding staff at The Carolina Inn and at PruittHealth Hospice for the care provided before Nancy went home. In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations made in Nancy’s memory to the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina (foodbankcenc.org). The food bank serves families in our area so donations will allow this organization to continue supporting and sharing kindness through food like Nancy.
