Mr. Newton Wardlaw Scott, III, 80 of Haw River went home to be with the Lord on Friday, September 12, 2025 at his home.

A graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, September 18, 2025 at Forsyth Memorial Park in Winston Salem, NC with Rev. Andy Wood, officiating.

The family will receive friends from 12:30 – 1:00 PM at the graveside at Forsyth Memorial Park and following the graveside there will be a reception for family and friends at Vogler Funeral Home at Forsyth Memorial Park.

Newton was born in Fresno, CA to Newton Wardlaw Scott, Jr. and Lesley June McPhail Scott on October 28, 1944, (both deceased). Along with his younger brother, Alan Randolf Scott (deceased), survived by his wife, Dede), their family moved and lived in many states, including Florida, El Paso, TX and settled in Winston-Salem, NC.

While attending Northwest Forsyth High School, he met and fell in love with Sandra Young. In High School he ran track and played basketball.

Newton and Sandra then went to Wake Forest University together. He played basketball and ran track there on a full ride athletic scholarship and graduated in 1968. His first job was teaching and coaching for Forsyth County Schools.

Newton and Sandra were married in June of 1968 and soon had a daughter, Christen Alison Scott in 1970. That same year he began working for Wachovia Bank and moved his family to Burlington, NC.

Over the years, he enjoyed fishing trips with his father, camping and going to Las Vegas with his family. He also enjoyed photography and researching his families genealogy, mowing and gardening.

In 1993 Newton added a son-in-law to his family, Craig Wood. He loved and treasured their friendship. Soon to follow were grandchildren, Zachary Scott Wood and wife, Kristy and Zoe Elizabeth Wood, both of Haw River. He was great-grandfather to Katherine Grace Wood and Caroline Elizabeth Wood.

He also loved his nephew, Shane Scott and his great niece, Claire Scott; his niece, Marcia Cuellar and husband, Jorge and their children, Alyssa and Christopher.

Newton and Sandra were married 57 years. He loved his family and spending time with them. Newton will be missed by all who loved him.

Services entrusted to Butler Funeral Home, 401 W. Roseboro Street, Roseboro, NC.
