Mrs. Nancy Carol Strickland Matthews, 63

AUTRYVILLE Mrs. Nancy Carol Strickland Matthews, 63 of 429 Carroll Store Road, Autryville, died on Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at Rex Healthcare in Raleigh. The funeral will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, July 4, 2014 at Bethabara United Methodist Church with Rev. Hank Dunbar and Rev. Dorothy Rudd officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. Matthews was born on November 23, 1950 in Sampson County to the late Claxton and Nannie Rebecca Hall Strickland. She is preceded in death by: her parents; one daughter, Angie Matthews; one sister, Janice Horne; and her father-in-law, Peyton Matthews. She worked as a Cosmetologist. Carol was a wonderful wife, mother, nana, sister, aunt and a special friend to many people. She never met a stranger and made everyone feel special. She never missed an opportunity to watch her grandsons play ball and was an avid follower of the N.C. State Wolfpack and the San Francisco Giants. She is survived by: her husband, Jimmy Matthews of the home; one son, Steve Matthews and wife, Beth of Autryville; two grandsons, Cole Matthews and Drew Matthews; two sisters, Marianne Hall and husband, Fulton and Pamela Gilmore and husband, Randy both of Autryville; her mother-in-law, Ethelyne Matthews of Autryville; and her brother-in-law, Timmy Matthews of Autryville. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Bethabara United Methodist Church, 4725 Maxwell Road, Autryville, and other times at the home of her son, 363 Carroll Store Road, Autryville.
