Mrs. Betty Gray West Matthews, 69, of 5339 Austin West Road, died November 4, 2012 at Cape Fear Valley Hospital.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, November 8, 2012 at Sharon Baptist Church in Fayetteville with Rev. Rob Wingo and Rev. Larry West officiating. Inurnment will follow in the church Cemetery.
Mrs. Matthews was born on September 11, 1943 in Sampson County to the late Austin and Margaret Smith West. She retired as secretary from Stedman Jr. High School and was the pianist for Sharon Baptist Church for 55 years.
She is survived by: her husband, Charlie A. Matthews of the home; three children, Genia Tew of Clinton, Harriet Owen of Roseboro, Franki Tilley of Turnbull; three step children, Wilber Allen Matthews and Kevin Matthews both of Sanford and Debbie Knight of Mississippi; one sister, Sally Quick of Fayetteville; two brothers, Tommy West and Al West of Turnbull; six grandchildren, Holly, Tori, Stephanie, Landon, Alaynah and Lonnie; and three great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, November 7, 2012 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Butler Funeral Home in Roseboro and other times at home.
