Miss Mannie Cornell Gardner, 87

ROSEBORO Miss Mannie Cornell Gardner, 87 of 507 W. Pinewood Street, Roseboro, went to her Heavenly home on Sunday, October 6, 2013 at Autumn Wind Assisted Living in Roseboro. The funeral will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, October 9, 2013 at Beaver Dam Baptist Church with Rev. Michael Shook and Rev. Roger White officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Miss Gardner was born on April 19, 1926 in Cumberland County to the late Ferber Prescott and Mannie Hales Gardner. She is preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers and their wives, James Gardner and wife Mary Dixie and Lathan Gardner and wife Maurene. She was initiated in the Order of the Eastern Star on January 15, 1979 at the Roseboro Chapter where she held the position of a Star Point Officer for many years. She also worked as a Bookkeeper for 35 years with Kimbrell's Furniture in Fayetteville. She is survived by: her nephew, Scott Gardner and great nephew, Adam Gardner of Morrisville; her cousin and caretaker, Edna Melvin of Roseboro; and numerous cousins. The family would like to thank the staff at Autumn Wind Assisted Living for their excellent care given during her stay. A special thanks to Carolyn Balwin for her loving kindness during the time she was Cornell's roommate and to Jean Merritt, her aide from 3HC, for the special care she gave to Cornell. The family will receive friends on Wednesday afternoon from 1:00 to 1:45 P.M. at Beaver Dam Baptist Church, 4693 Beaver Dam Church Road, Roseboro. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Beaver Dam Baptist Church, Mission Fund, 4693 Beaver Dam Church Road, Roseboro, NC 28382; or to a charity of choice.
