Mrs. Merlene Elizabeth Cashwell Howell, 90 of Autryville went home to be with the Lord on Friday, October 25, 2024 at the home of her daughter, surrounded by her loving family.

A graveside service will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, October 27, 2024 at Sandy Horne Cemetery in Autryville with the Rev. Andy Wood officiating.

The family will receive friends at the home of her daughter, Debbie Bullard at 1469 Carry Bridge Road, Autryville.

She was born in Cumberland County on July 11, 1934 to Earl and Lizzie Tanner Cashwell.  She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Landas Howell, Sr.; two sisters, Betty Jean Tanner and Brenda Tanner.  She was a homemaker.

She is survived by her son, Landis Howell, Jr. and wife, Debbie of Autryville; daughters, Debbie Bullard and husband, Jonathan of Autryville, Barbara Register and husband, Darrell of Autryville; three grandchildren, Justin Register and wife, Jessica of Autryville, Ashley Register and fiancé, Nicholas McLaughlin of Autryville, Tracy Johnson and husband, Chad of Autryville; five great grandchildren, Hannah and Nolon Register, Aubrey Thigpen, Grayson and Raelynn Johnson; brother, Reuben Cashwell and wife, Faye of Autryville; Aunt Mary Tanner of Autryville and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Gentiva and her caring and compassionate nurse, Tommie Briscoe Smith.
